Dear Members and Friends of The John Birch Society,
On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers issued an Executive Order shutting down “non-essential” Wisconsin businesses until April 24 in order to slow the spread of the China COVID-19 coronavirus.
Without getting into the unconstitutionality, the fearmongering, and the irresponsibility of this (not to mention what Congress is now trying to ram through and what the Federal Reserve has done), our organization is prepared to weather this storm. Contingency plans have already been implemented, and most staff is working from home.
We sensed this coming about a week ago and began assessing how we would be able to continue to serve you if we did not have access to our physical facilities. This was not overly hard as we already have our entire Field Staff working from remote locations, so we just needed to beef up our digital points of entry, install additional software on some computers that were being sent home with staff, and have our phone service provider tweak our system, so we could have all incoming phone calls redirected to our personal cell phones.
For the most part, we are open for business as usual (mostly online), although we are abiding by Gov. Evers’ directive and trying very hard to follow the “spirit of the law.”
We certainly are blessed to be a national organization that isn’t entirely dependent upon the happenings of just one state.
Our New American news magazine remains open since it is news media, which is exempt from the order. Although some of the staff are working from the TNA building (right next door to the JBS HQ building), most have opted to work from home to help ensure that if any staff does get sick that we are not spreading it to others. Support staff for The New American will be stopping in to fulfill and ship orders twice a week, and all phone calls and emails will be answered on a regular basis. Our buildings will be nearly empty and when critical staff is there, all health guidelines are being followed, so as not to jeopardize their health, as well as others (not to mention our liability).
While the infection risk is very low, that doesn’t negate our personal and corporate responsibility to keep ourselves and our staff healthy.
Neither of the buildings are opened to the public and tours will resume once the directive is rescinded and after we have a chance to assess the risks.
FreedomProject Academy is also exempt from the order, and we’re told that it’s business as usual for them.
As Wisconsin joins nearly a third of the country caught up in this mass hysteria lockdown, we should note that while our jobs are made more difficult, you and I cannot slow or stop our Birching.
Now, more than ever, your patriotic leadership is needed. Is this the America our Founders envisioned? Is cowering in fear, closing our businesses and churches, deliberately ruining our economy, and disrupting our entire way of life in any way what our Founders expected Americans to do?
Where are the state legislatures, the business leaders, the trade associations, the unions, the chambers of commerce, the tavern leagues, the restaurant associations, the ACLU, the Christian lawyer groups, and any other group whose mission it is to serve, protect, and grow their industry?
Look around you. Where are all the Americans?
Once again, it is The John Birch Society that is the voice of patriotic leadership in the midst of another storm. To paraphrase a Samuel Adams quote from 1780, our country stands in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin. He’s talking about you and the influence you have on others. You don’t see it, but when you flex this influence through your Birching activities, it is felt throughout your state as well the nation. Why? Because you are part of a national program that builds an educational foundation from which specific efforts and communications are amplified.
For instance, when you give out literature or a DVD and ask someone for their opinion on it, you have started a conversation, or even planted a seed. If you’re able to do follow-up, then you are able to answer questions and suggest a specific course of action (learn more, tell others, recruit others to do the same, contact Congress or state legislators, attend a Visit Your State Legislators Day at the capitol, staff a booth/table at an event, host a video showing, give presentations to other likeminded groups, plus many more!).
When those courses of action are followed, the effects are not of one person, but of many, many across the country speaking as one. Elected officials feel this influence and hear your voice. That’s the power of organization. The more active you are, the more patriots you can attract and recruit. Plus, the more influence you can locally generate, the more educated local voters will be, especially on local and state races.
Currently, governments at all levels are making it much harder to create connections with others and “Birch.” Our traditional methods of face-to-face interactions are nearly impossible with the hysteria and hype surrounding China’s COVID-19. Please don’t misinterpret that to mean we shouldn’t be cautious, but it’s not the government’s responsibility to keep you healthy—that’s your responsibility. So follow the guidelines.
Even though, our traditional methods are on pause, there are many other activities we can be doing. After all, even our traditional methods can take advantage of new technologies. The Internet is drawing quite the captive audience, with so many businesses idled.
For all of its flaws, social media is still one of the best ways to “virtually” meet likeminded patriots. Facebook, Twitter, Snap Chat, Instagram, and YouTube have some good patriotic content. The JBS, The New American, and FreedomProject Academy all have accounts on various social media platforms.

If you sign up to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube, then you have an opportunity to find and interact with likeminded patriots. Facebook allows you to post an event (like an upcoming video showing) and to promote it to a specific audience through an inexpensive ad. This allows you to connect with patriots in your area that you may not know about.
Each of our social media pages for JBS, TNA, and FPA have plenty of content you can share through your account. If you don’t have an account for these social media sites, there are plenty of online videos and pages that will show you how:
Facebook ([link removed]) Twitter ([link removed]) YouTube ([link removed])
Facebook also has groups that you can join. Join a likeminded group and share information with them, especially on what is happening with China’s COVID-19. The New American is reporting great content on this topic which is very much needed amongst all the hysteria and media hype.
While we are locked down, let’s focus on getting the truth out, making new connections online, and directing others to their local Coordinator:

If you’re already in a Chapter, use this time to regularly meet through the telephone or through online video conferencing like Skype, Zoom, or GoTo Meeting. Each of these requires an account and have free options:
Skype ([link removed]) Zoom ([link removed]) GoTo Meeting ([link removed])
The main thing is to not stop your planning. Use this time to educate yourself and others using our online tools, and keep in contact with your Coordinator. Perhaps this is a great time to order some books from ShopJBS and TNA ([link removed]) to catch up on your learning.
We’ll have more direction on this later, but in the meantime, here’s what we will leave you with: the answer to all of this is less government, more responsibility, and -- with God’s help -- a better world.
Each usurpation of power, especially locally, needs to be met with the appropriate Constitutional solution. If you’re under lockdown, review your state’s constitution to see what measures the state legislature can take to be a check on such draconian measures. Let your state legislators know what you find, as they probably are not aware of it! Then have your friends and neighbors do the same. Keep the pressure on them until they take action, which means continually forwarding them helpful Wuhan virus information from The New American. Many elected officials are active on Twitter and Facebook. You just need to find them.
All Americans should be standing together to declare Never Again! Never again do we want to see such tyranny. We are not subjects. We are caring Americans who will not be ruled, but will be a partner in helping to battle the enemies of America and humanity, including viruses coming out of China. Top down approaches do nothing to garner cooperation. Rather bottom-up will stop the virus in its tracks a lot quicker.
Never again do we want to be so dependent upon China and the detrimental effects of globalism.
For more on the Wuhan virus and action you can take, including contacting legislators, visit JBS.org/COVID19 ([link removed]) .
Also please consider donating ([link removed]) to help us through this difficult time.
We’ll have much more to come, so please stay tuned and stay active!
Let us know how you’re doing and what you need from us. Plus, if you have suggestions on staying active that you want us to share, then please email us at

Thank you and God bless!
