Mortal Systemic Exclusion Yielded Mortality-Rate Increases In Homeless Population

In the February 2024 Housing & Health issue of Health Affairs, Matthew Fowle of the University of Pennsylvania and Giselle Routhier of New York University assess mortality rates among people experiencing homelessness between 2011-20 ([link removed] ) .

They find large increases in both all-cause and cause-specific homeless mortality rates, with the largest increases in cause-specific mortality related to drug and alcohol overdose, diabetes, infection, cancer, homicide, and traffic injury.

TennCare Disenrollment Led To Increased Evictions in Tennessee

Also in the issue, Mir Ali of the University of Maryland, College Park, and coauthors examine the associations between TennCare disenrollment in 2005 and eviction filings ([link removed] ) in Tennessee.

They determine that relative to other southern states, TennCare disenrollment led to a 27.6 percent greater increase in county-level eviction filings and a 24.5 percent greater increase in completed evictions at the county level.
