Friend,
I want to take a moment and share with you a very important piece of legislation that I introduced that recognizes the ultimate sacrifice of a local Philadelphia law enforcement officer.
Just last week, a bill to rename the post office at 9925 Bustleton Avenue in Philadelphia as the "Sergeant Christopher David Fitzgerald Post Office Building", passed out of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
Sergeant Fitzgerald, a Temple University Police Officer who resided my Philadelphia congressional district, was tragically killed in the line of duty earlier this year. Sergeant Fitzgerald was the first Temple University officer to be killed in the line of duty. He is survived by his wife Marissa and four children -- two girls and two boys -- between the ages of 7 to 13.
Sergeant Fitzgerald was a valued member of the Temple University community and was passionate about serving our city. His commitment to serving the public was absolute, and he took immense pride in his work protecting the Temple Community. His conduct was and is an extraordinary example of absolute commitment to his community and city. Renaming this post office in the city he called “home” is the least we can do to recognize his bravery; a small but important symbol of our eternal thanks.
I will keep you updated here as this bill progresses. I am confident it will clear a full House and Senate vote and will be delivered to President Biden for his signature.
Sincerely
Brendan F. Boyle
Member of Congress
