John, you might be thinking – with 9 months to go before Election Day, we have plenty of time to prepare. But the truth is, our work here at Common Cause is already well underway, and there is still much that must be done right now to ensure we’re able to protect voters this year.
You see, I manage Common Cause’s Election Protection work and our team has been working nonstop to defend EVERY voter’s rights. After all, we knew going into this election year that voters would face new, unprecedented obstacles.
Common Cause has sprung into action, and I’m simply amazed at what we’ve been able to accomplish so far together.
We’ve recruited a staggering number of volunteers to help voters cast their ballots during the primaries, and we’re seeing new volunteers sign up on our portal at ProtectTheVote.net every single day. Those volunteers (and you might even be one of them!) have already covered hundreds of shifts at polling places.
We’ve put more resources into our Election Protection work than ever before, because we simply must meet the moment we are in.
But John, I’m taking the time to write to you because unfortunately, maintaining our current level of investment isn’t going to be sufficient this year.
We’re up against 17 new restrictive voting laws aimed at influencing the 2024 elections – and that’s not counting any new laws being passed this year. Common Cause is responding by ramping up volunteer recruitment so we can run our biggest Election Protection program yet – but I need your help.
It’s no small commitment for our dedicated volunteers to sacrifice their nights and weekends to defend our democracy – we owe it to them to meet this moment and train and equip every single volunteer that signs up this year. It’ll be expensive and time-consuming, but absolutely necessary.
It costs us $50 to fully prepare one new volunteer for the field – and I’m asking you today if you’ll sponsor one or more volunteers with a tax-deductible contribution. Can you please pitch in what you can?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Whether you can afford to sponsor one volunteer, multiple volunteers – or you can’t give $50, but can pitch in a few dollars to team up with a fellow supporter – please know your donation will make an immediate, direct impact on hundreds of voters.
I hope you’ll pitch in what you can today. Thank you for your support, and for all you are doing for our democracy.
