The Senate’s third response package to the COVID-19 pandemic is about to pass. The House of Representatives will vote on it tomorrow.
But the Senate bill, as written, contains an insidious attack on our Social Security system, and the Democrats are walking right into the trap.
The Senate bill contains a provision to let corporations stop paying into Social Security for the rest of the year.
Senator Schumer had been pushing for Social Security benefits to be increased by $200 per month, recognizing that seniors and people with disabilities will have the hardest time living under a lockdown.
The House of Representatives can still fix this bill. Call your Representative at 202-224-3121 TODAY and tell them:

Social Security Works has been highlighting the trap this cut will create: If Trump and Republicans retain power after November’s elections, they will make sure that corporations never repay Social Security. Then, Republicans will use the reduced trust fund as an excuse to destroy our Social Security system.
If Democrats win and require corporations to pay what they owe, the remaining Republicans will call fully funding Social Security a tax increase, and it won’t be fully restored.
The only way to escape this trap is to avoid stepping into it in the first place. That’s why the House MUST remove the cut to Social Security’s dedicated funding before this bill passes!
