Make Yourself Immune to Secondhand Stress - Harvard Business Review (No paywall) Over the past decade, we have learned how our brains are hardwired for emotional contagion. Emotions spread via a wireless network of mirror neurons, which are tiny parts of the brain that allow us to empathize with others and understand what they’re feeling. But it’s not just smiles and yawns that spread. We can pick up negativity, stress, and uncertainty like secondhand smoke. Researchers Howard Friedman and Ronald Riggio from the University of California, Riverside found that if someone in your visual field is anxious and highly expressive — either verbally or non-verbally — there’s a high likelihood you’ll experience those emotions as well, negatively impacting your brain’s performance.

Gafford, who exceeded expectations for Washington since coming in a midseason trade in 2021, reminded them what they gave up, registering 16 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks against his old team Monday. But Washington is thinking big picture: Adding a first-round pick in this upcoming draft while also being able to shed some salary will help the rebuild in Washington. -- Youngmisuk WorkWorkWorkWhich MLS coaches could be feeling the heat early in 2024? An already injury-worn and travel-weary squad will face a hectic early-season schedule, as they traverse surmountable opponents in MLS but must contend with continental competition in between. Should they falter in the early days, potentially injuring a star player or sitting them to prevent that, Miami could see a good bit of pressure from fans and media and 2024 gets going. WorkPalmer keen to show Man City what they lost when Chelsea visit Meanwhile, Palmer and Chelsea would be insulted by any suggestion that he\'s taken a step down collectively in order to take a step forward individually. Chelsea still believe their policy of amassing top, young talent on long-term contracts will leave them well placed to compete with English football\'s finest for years to come. Palmer is emerging as the best example of that process, proof of Pochettino\'s ongoing ability to nurture precocious talent and mitigation of criticism that Chelsea\'s transfer strategy was too scattergun to succeed. WorkCan anyone in F1 catch Red Bull in 2024? For Aston Martin to remain competitive throughout the season, though, it will be imperative that Lance Stroll ups his game in 2024.
