Jack, it is an absolutely horrible time to be working for a news organization. Every single day there is story after story after story about the demise, collapse, and extinction of our news industry.

Absolutely none of this is good news as we head into a pivotal election where the White House, control of the Senate and the House, and even our democracy itself are on the line.

Daily Kos is the country's first and only participatory, grassroots-funded news and activism hub. Support our work with a donation of $5 or whatever amount is meaningful to you.

The problem is multifaceted: Advertising revenue, once the foundation of funding for news organizations, is declining. Big Tech and social media platforms are diverting traffic away from news sites, and frankly, people are just burned out from consuming news.

Daily Kos has not been spared from the financial hardships that have plagued other news outlets. Last year, for the first time in our twenty-plus-year history, Daily Kos was forced to lay off staff. It was gut wrenching for everyone. Unfortunately, 2024 hasn't gotten off to a better start.

Daily Kos relies on three sources of revenue to power our work; community donations, advertising revenue, and list building. Unfortunately, two of the three sources have underperformed our expectations for the past two years. o make matters worse, our projections for 2025 have yet to show any improvement.

This means that Daily Kos is relying more and more on donations from our readers and activists to fuel our work. That makes us accountable to you, Jack. We know that in order to keep operating, we have to fight and deliver for what you believe in.

Please support progressive news and activism with a donation of $5 or more to Daily Kos today.
