Liberal Democrats 3 in 4 burglaries go unsolved

John, our latest analysis reveals that three in four burglaries across
England and Wales went unsolved in the year to September 2023. That amounts to
a shocking 213,814 burglaries!

Burglary can be devastating, not just for the material loss but also by
leaving people feeling unsafe in their own homes.

Failure to bring burglars to justice only encourages them to strike again,
confident they won’t be caught.

Such is the result of the Conservatives’ ‘burglar bailout’. Years of
ineffective resourcing by the Conservatives have stretched local police forces
thin, leaving them unable to tackle frontline crimes like burglary. In 2022
alone, officers failed to attend 45,000 burglaries - an essential step towards
solving these crimes.

It is a travesty that so many victims are being let down by this reckless
Conservative Government.

That’s why we’re calling for a Burglary Response Guarantee to ensure every
incident is attended and properly investigated, bringing more criminals to
justice and solace to victims.

Alongside this, we will restore proper community policing, where officers have
the time and resources to prevent and solve crimes. We will also create an
urgent national recruitment, training and retention strategy so we have the
detectives needed.
