John,
Happy Valentine’s Day! Today is a day to remind those around you, family and friends and neighbors, how much you love and appreciate them.
One thing I’m also thinking about today is my love for Virginia. Virginia is where my family settled when I was a kid, after multiple moves with my father’s job. Virginia is the place that nurtured my love of history and our country - in my public school classrooms, as an undergraduate at UVA, or in visits across the rich history of Virginia and our country. Virginia’s always been home as I traveled and worked abroad — not just my home leave location — but the place where my family and Adam’s family have always been ready and waiting to welcome us. Virginia is also the place where Adam and I chose to raise our children, moving home ten years ago, just miles from where we grew up.

These photos are from when we came home to visit in December 2011. It was my daughter Charlotte’s visit home to Virginia and the United States! This is our family - my parents and Adam’s parents and my two sisters and Adam’s two brothers and their families meeting us at the Richmond airport!

My love for Virginia and its people is what drove me to first run for Congress in 2018. I’ve proudly served Virginia’s Seventh District through extraordinary moments in history, and I have worked every day to lower prescription drug costs, rebuild our infrastructure, support our veterans, and defend our rights.
Our Commonwealth has so much to offer, but right now, we’re seeing dangerous and divisive rhetoric take over Richmond and drive extreme policies — like book bans and abortion bans. I can’t sit idly by and watch extreme voices try to dismantle our democracy and our Commonwealth.
That’s why I’m running for Governor – I’ll bring a deep love for our Commonwealth, an unwavering dedication to hard work, and a commitment to uniting people to tackle the genuine issues confronting Virginians.
I know this race won’t be easy, but I’m no stranger to a competitive race — and I know that with the strength of our grassroots support, we can accomplish anything. So, will you join me today and help spread my love for Virginia?
