John –
To put it simply, our life-changing work for families facing crisis is powered by your love and compassion. And there's no better way to express how much we care about one another – and how much we value you – than by sharing a meaningful meal or treat.
This Valentine's Day, we want to spread the love by sharing the recipe for a sweet treat: strawberry vareniki 🍓 (on page 18 of our virtual Recipes from Home cookbook).
This special version of sweet Ukrainian dumplings comes from Zhanna Krasemann, who is originally from the south of Ukraine and now works for the IRC.
Vareniki is one of Zhanna's favorite foods to cook with her mother, a family tradition that binds them together. It's part of Recipes from Home, a collection of recipes from refugees and others far from home – and our exclusive Valentine's Day treat for our best supporters like you.
Â
Zhanna's mother makes vareniki -- a sweet Ukrainian strawberry treat we think is perfect for Valentine's Day.
Zhanna knows that even something as simple as a strawberry dumpling can be a powerful reminder of home, and a way to share a special moment with loved ones.
"I brought my mom from Ukraine to live with us in Texas. Cooking is huge and an incredibly important part of life for me and any Ukrainian, especially when you are away from home."
This Valentine's Day, I want to say thank you again for being a part of our critical work, which is powered by the love and compassion of so many people all over the world.
I hope you'll take a moment to celebrate, sample some vareniki — or any of the treats in Recipes from Home — and feel the love.
– Andrea 💛 |
