[link removed] [[link removed]] Trump asks SCOTUS for immunityJohn,
Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court to pause an appeals court ruling that rejected his claim that he is absolutely immune from the criminal charges resulting from his attempts to subvert the 2020 election.
Given the damning facts laid out in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s indictment, let’s call this what it is: a last-ditch effort from Trump to get away with election crimes.
Trump’s attempts to claim immunity do not hold up under the barest scrutiny—but they are still dangerous. If Trump is granted immunity by the Court, that could make him even more brazen with his lawbreaking in the future.
The Supreme Court must rule that the president is not above the law and it must do so quickly.
