I’m very excited to share Real Justice’s next endorsement. We are proud to
support Mike Schmidt in the District Attorney race in Multnomah County,
Oregon. (That’s Portland!)

The incumbent DA is retiring so the seat is up for grabs. That means we
have a really great shot at electing a District Attorney who will fight to
end mass incarceration in Portland, Oregon.

Mike is going to fight to end cash bail and he’s pledged to never seek the
death penalty — but the primary election is in less than two months so we
need all hands on deck to secure this win.

As the Director of the Criminal Justice Association in Oregon, Mike used
his position to advocate to end cash bail in the state and promoted other
crucial criminal justice reforms.

Mike has also pledged to never seek the death penalty as District Attorney
of Multnomah County. He recognizes that the death penalty is a draconian
and cruel punishment that should be completely abolished.

You’ve probably heard me say this before, but no single person in the
criminal justice system has more power, more influence, and makes more
consequential decisions than the local district attorney. By electing a
reform-minded district attorney in Portland, Oregon we can continue to
build our movement to transform our criminal legal system from the inside
out.

The primary election is in under just two months. This means we all need
to do everything we can to help Mike win on May 19th. Together, we can
radically transform the system in Portland and build the power to
transform our entire country.
