It’s time for Donald Trump and his administration to listen to the experts: This crisis is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. So we need to do everything in our power to save people.

That’s why I’m calling for a national shelter in place order — to slow the spread of COVID-19, protect the vulnerable, and aid our health workers right now.

At the current rate of spread, we will have nearly one million cases of COVID-19 within the next 10 days. That means our current measures are insufficient to preserve medical capacity to deal with this crisis, and if we don’t flatten the curve, hundreds of thousands of people that can be saved will die due to our inaction.

A pandemic puts everything in perspective. Our nation has a history of coming together in times of crisis to rise to the occasion. We’re urging the Trump administration to fulfill that American ideal — to stand up for the millions of people at risk.
