John,

One of the greatest struggles facing Colorado communities is access to healthcare. Rural hospitals are losing CEOs, closing maternity wards, and – in some cases – shutting down altogether.

We don’t immediately see the impact of these burdens on the people of Colorado, but there’s another healthcare issue many of us have struggled with: the cost.

An effective and affordable solution to both problems already exists. It’s Medicare For All.

The U.S. desperately needs universal healthcare. As a U.S. Marine, I’ve had it. There’s no reason the government can’t deliver for you like it did for me.

I can’t put a number to how much this legislation would benefit our rural communities.

Living in a town where the nearest hospital is 30 miles away is a problem, but it’s an even bigger problem when that hospital is “out of network.” With universal healthcare, health insurance companies deciding which hospitals you or your loved ones can afford treatment at would become a thing of the past.

Plus, Medicare For All would let Congress negotiate with hospitals and drug companies to lower the cost of healthcare and medications. It would save us even more money by shifting the costs of insurance to the government, rather than employers and employees.

John, putting an end to health insurance companies, insurmountable medical bills, and unaffordable life-saving medications is not just the right thing to do. It’s the most financially responsible thing to do.

Our system today allows companies to profit off of death and suffering. It prioritizes private companies’ financial gain instead of our health and wellbeing. When I get to Congress, I’d like to change that. Are you with me?

A majority of Americans on both sides of the aisle, as well as independents and third-party members, agree that Medicare For All must be delivered.

It’s time to put people before profits, and it’s time that Americans stop paying the most for healthcare with the worst results.

That’s something worth fighting for.
