At this meeting, COPE Co-Chairs Herb Harris and Chuck Clay will lead an overview of the FY 2025 budget and its impacts; track legislation moving in DC Council, review the 2024 candidate questionnaire and plan for interviews, hear a report from affiliate unions, and share an upcoming action calendar.

Workers at Aslin Beer Company begin DC area's first brewery/taproom unionization effort
|
On Monday, February 12, 2024, employees at Aslin Beer Compnay's 14th Street NW location sent a letter to Aslin management regarding their intention to unionize.
“For months, we have been understaffed, despite many veteran employees not being scheduled to work...Communication is absent, the turnover rate is unsustainable, facilities remain in a state of disrepair, and basic supplies take months to order,” said the letter. The letter requests voluntary recognition of a union with Workers United (SEIU). Read more »

AFSCME members hit the halls of Annapolis

Over the last month AFSCME Maryland Council 3 members have been in Annapolis meeting with legislators. From improving facilities at Howard County Public Schools, to collective bargaining rights for state agency supervisors, to the Library Workers Empower Act (HB 609/SB 591), AFSCME members are putting in the work to make change happen. The Community Services Agency of the Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO has operated the Building Futures Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program since 2007. LCLAA's Trabajadoras Fellowship

LCLAA created its Trabajadoras Fellowship to empower Latina workers with the information it takes to improve working conditions and organize fellow Latina workers. This six-month program prepares Fellows to promote gender equality, engage in coalition building, participate and coordinate civic engagement efforts, as well as to raise awareness regarding Latina worker priorities, including closing the gender, ethnic and racial wage gap.
