In a crisis like the coronavirus pandemic, we look to our leaders for guidance. Lt. Gov Dan Patrick’s advice to our senior citizens? He told them to “take a chance on your survival” so that Texans can end social distancing, get back to work, and give the economy and the stock market a boost.

Millions of senior citizens and Americans with underlying health conditions are at risk of dying if they are exposed to COVID-19. Lives are on the line, but instead of taking action, the TX GOP is burying their heads in the sand. We need to hold them accountable - now.

- Governor Abbott is weeks behind other states taking decisive and necessary action - statewide stay at home orders - to slow COVID-19 spread.
- Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton used the coronavirus outbreak to attack women’s healthcare by banning abortion procedures during the epidemic.
- Trump and GOP leaders are pushing to reopen the economy by next week against public health experts’ advice, putting millions of lives at risk.

Enough. It’s time for us to hold our leaders accountable. If the Texas GOP cannot put their extreme partisan ideology aside in the face of the worst public health crisis in a century, they have no business being in power. In short - Texas Republicans would rather have people die a preventable death than give up their extreme partisan ideology. There’s no partisanship in public health. COVID-19 doesn’t care if you’re a Democrat or Republican - we’re all in this together. It’s time that the GOP gets on board, or gets out of the way.
