For too long, the government has used "national security" as an excuse to secretly spy on Americans without a warrant.

ACLU Supporter, this is unconscionable.

Right now, the House is considering a backroom deal that would reauthorize Section 702, the shadowy law the government uses to justify the mass warrantless surveillance of Americans' communications – with none of the widely-supported reforms needed to prevent abuse.

If this sounds extreme, that's because it is.

If the House gets away with this, they'll be passing a major, unconstitutional expansion of domestic government surveillance, while trying to hide it from the very people they're elected to represent.

We need all hands on deck right now to protect our privacy and stop this anti-democratic overreach. Tell Congress: We deserve transparency from our elected officials – and we deserve laws that end mass warrantless surveillance >> <[link removed]>

Take Action <[link removed]>

Our representatives are considering holding a secret session – an anti-democratic option that uses "national security" as an excuse to keep the public in the dark – to quietly renew Section 702. The FBI has repeatedly misused this invasive law to spy on the online conversations of American protestors, journalists, political donors, and even members of Congress without a warrant.

The House has only met in secret sessions four times in history. They don't get to demand secrecy while voting to continue violating our privacy.

There is no question that this mass warrantless surveillance of Americans violates the Fourth Amendment.

We're sending a clear message to lawmakers that their constituents are watching. Congress must uphold our right to privacy and reject Section 702 without fundamental reform. <[link removed]>
