Hi John,

There’s no easy way to say this, especially on Valentine’s Day, but I
think world leaders are having commitment issues. This is no ordinary case
of cold feet though.

A report published by my ONE colleagues found that nearly two-thirds of
the climate funding promised either hasn’t been delivered or didn’t have
much to do with climate in the first place.* Some of these funds for
climate are allegedly being spent on opening up chocolate shops. 😲

Why does this matter? Climate change could push more than 132 million
additional people into extreme poverty. By 2050, more than 1.6 billion
people – including nearly 20% of Africa’s population – could be exposed to
severe droughts. That’s a 400% increase from today.

Everyone, everywhere is better off if climate-vulnerable countries get the
help they need to build resilient economies, infrastructure, and social
safety nets. But that means getting over the doubts and delivering the
promises made. No more second thoughts.
