Paeonian Springs, Virginia, Summer 1994, right after we told my parents we were getting married!

My Valentine

On February 14, 1991, my college sweetheart Ben said to dress up; he was taking me to a fancy dinner.  When we hopped in the car, he started driving in a suspiciously circuitous route. Fifteen minutes later, we ended up right back on Haverford College campus.  He led me to the stairs of Sharpless Hall. Up and up we climbed, until we got to the top floor, climbed through a window, and onto the roof.  Our maître de, Jeff, welcomed us to a table for two, complete with candles, wine, a multi-course meal, and a spectacular view of Founders Green.  It was a memorable night!

We've been married going on 29 years now. These last few years have been filled with more memories and milestones for me and Ben  --  moving my Mom, then later his parents, to Knoxville, watching our daughters graduate from high school and college, running (and winning!) two campaigns, experiencing the deaths of my sister and Mom, not to mention the pandemic and other historic events.  It has been a lot!

So, on this Valentine’s Day, I am especially thankful for Ben’s love, support and constancy.  I hope you can spend time with a loved one today.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
