More than three dozen groups have already booked convention space for the year after construction is scheduled to be completed on Dallas' Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, city staff told council members in the first update on the project in nearly a year.
Rosa Fleming, the city's director of convention and event services, said the building is on track to open in 2029, despite slight changes in plans to accommodate TxDOT and Norfolk Southern Railway projects.
The expansion would triple the size of the convention center's largest ballroom and double its meeting space, plus update the building the city describes as "deficient."

Subsidies to Businesses are Only Needed When Government has Failed it's Residents
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) offers subsidies for internet services to 23 million low-income
households across the country, including 116,259 homes in Dallas. The program provides participants with up to a $30 discount on the internet, and qualifying households can also get a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer or tablet from certain providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
But without any action by Congress, the ACP will run out of funds by April, leaving millions without much-needed internet access at home.
