In 2020, Donald Trump made more visits to Michigan than almost any other state in the country.
On Saturday, he's coming back. It will already be his 3rd trip in the 2024 race.
So what does his trip mean?
First, let's state the obvious: there is no winning the White House in 2024 without winning Michigan. That goes for Joe Biden, and that goes for Donald Trump.
So this trip will be the next of many because Trump knows he needs to keep his supporters consistently motivated between now and November. Every time he visits he gets more volunteer activity and he gets more media attention -- both things he wants for his campaign.
It's also a chance for him to rally and organize more Michigan donors, the small-dollar ones and the deep-pocketed ones that will fund huge independent expenditures in the state.
All of this impacts our race.
If someone turns out for Trump, there is a decent chance they are turning out for the Republican nominee in our Senate race.
But we are not powerless in this campaign.
Because every person we turn out in our race is also likely a vote to keep Trump out of the White House. And the truth is, we have always done better than most Democrats do in some of those "redder" parts of the state.
So this is a big moment for us. We need to do our best to match the energy Trump generates for Republicans in Michigan. Because it is not just our race and control of the Senate for Democrats on the line in Michigan, but it's also the White House.
So please:
Can I count on you to contributev to my campaign for Senate in Michigan before Donald Trump arrives for his rally later this week? I would not ask if it were not so important.
