My name is Sampson and I work for CAFOD in Liberia. I need to tell you about the fishing families here on the coast and why they are in urgent need of your support this Lent.

James is one of the fishermen I work with.

He told me about the terrible choice he and other fishermen faced when they had no food: stay home, stay safe... stay hungry - or fight the sea and face down storms in the hope that you'll bring home a catch.

Each month, fathers like James are dying at sea. Even though he is a skilled fisherman, on each fishing trip without the right equipment James risked losing everything in an effort to feed his family.

"I can remember a storm not long ago," James told me. "It took our friends from us. The ocean was very rough. We got swept out far to sea."

But thanks to your support, James can go fishing with a life jacket, a GPS fishfinder and even a cooler to keep his catch fresh. He can return home safely, put food on the table, and sell the extra he has caught to make sure his family thrives.

That's why a Lenten gift today can make such a difference. James' family and others like them all around the world shouldn't have to risk losing everything to provide for their loved ones.

When you start a monthly gift, you'll reach even more mums and dads who want the chance to feed their families today, tomorrow and for good.

Thank you for reading James' story and thank you for your support.

With every blessing this Lent,

Sampson Benin
