Hi John — My name is Patty Rhee, and I had the great pleasure of working for Adam for many years. I now consider him a close friend, and today, I want to tell you a little bit about the other sides of Adam you may not know about.
Many of you recognize Adam Schiff as the unwavering defender of our democracy — principled, brave, and intelligent. Throughout the Trump Presidency, I heard from numerous friends who found solace in knowing that someone like Adam was tirelessly defending the Constitution.
The Adam you saw during the impeachment hearings is the Adam I knew as a boss: dedicated, prepared, and moved by conviction. Whether defending democracy or helping individual constituents overcome impossible healthcare obstacles, Adam doesn’t relent until he delivers results.
Adam and I have known each other for over 25 years — first as colleagues and now as friends. It’s worth mentioning that I met my husband, Paul, in Adam’s office, and we had the honor of then-State Senator Schiff officiating our wedding. It’s hard to imagine, given the stern and earnest image that has defined Adam these past few years, but he is one of the funniest, dorkiest, most light-hearted individuals I know. He delights in telling corny dad jokes and didn't lose his sense of humor even in the darkest and heaviest moments of the impeachment. Even during the impossibly chaotic and tense impeachment proceedings, he would make time for lunch with us when we visited the Capitol and always found a reason to smile and lift our spirits.
His kindness and generosity extend not only to his close friends and family but also to all those he represents. Even when encountering negativity or undue criticism, Adam holds no resentment. He is remarkably magnanimous and compassionate to all those he has sworn to serve, no matter which side of the aisle you are on.
From Adam, I learned the essence of forgiveness and the responsibility to work hard to represent everyone, regardless of political affiliation — something that can be particularly challenging in today's political climate.
I am so proud of Adam as he runs to represent California in the United States Senate. I know that he will remain deeply committed to the values we share, and he will continue to represent us all with dignity, kindness, and fairness.
Now that you know more about Adam, I’m hoping you will pitch in to his campaign. With the primary election coming up soon, he needs your support.
