Read this today Friend? ? ? This story is still developing? at 1:30am this morning, Senate leaders announced on the floor that there is an agreement on the coronavirus bailout bill.

Initial drafts included a $500 billion slush fund, to be controlled and disbursed by the Trump administration, with virtually no oversight. Trump had previously stated, "I'll be the oversight."

Trump has already made strong indications he'd like to divert funds to polluting industries and ones he has personal connections with ? including the oil and gas industry, cruise lines, and his own businesses.

As it stands, the new agreement blocks funds from going to Trump-owned properties and adds a Senate-confirmed inspector general and independent review board as oversight to the fund. We've succeeded in removing $3 billion in direct payouts to Big Oil ? but we need to keep pushing to secure this victory all the way to the vote.

We need your help. The Senate is expected to pass the bill this afternoon, and then the House soon after. We need to push hard to make sure that McConnell doesn't slip payouts back into the bill, the independent review board is actually independent, and the Senate confirms an inspector general that isn't a rubber-stamp for Trump. We're ramping up our campaign now.

The best thing you can do right now is make an emergency contribution. Right now, every donation is being triple-matched. Even $5 is enough to make a difference ? [link removed]

? LCV Rapid Response ? ? ? ? ? This story is developing quickly? The Senate is preparing for another vote on the coronavirus stimulus bill ? a vote is expected as soon as THIS AFTERNOON.

As it stands, Senate Republicans have built a $500 billion slush fund into the stimulus bill for the Trump administration to control and distribute to industries affected by the pandemic, with no oversight or transparency.

Trump has given every possible indication that he'd like to bail out oil and gas companies, as well as other polluting industries. It's a completely unacceptable use of public funds.

Negotiations are getting nasty. We've been organizing in a major way to stop these bailouts from making it into the final bill. The campaign is working: the bill has failed in the Senate so far because pro-environmental and pro-democracy lawmakers saw the massive slush fund as a non-starter. That's because they're listening to their constituents ? that is the power of organizing.

But our work is not over ? not even close. We need to get even louder. We need to keep organizing (digitally!), we need to light up lawmakers' phones and emails and urge them to pass a coronavirus bill without polluter handouts, but we can't do any of this without your help.

A donor is triple-matching every contribution to LCV through the end of the month. Right now your contribution will go three times as far. Take a look at your status below and then, please, make an emergency contribution to fund this campaign. Even $5 is enough to make a difference ? [link removed]

FOR IMMEDIATE REVIEW: YOUR TRIPLE MATCH STATUS
Please confirm NAME: Friend Friend SUPPORTER EMAIL: [email protected] GOAL: $100,000 by March 31, 2020 PROGRESS: 68% to goal STATUS: STILL PENDING ? DONATE $5 TODAY ? [link removed] We know these are scary times. The threat to public health is obvious and dire. The economic damage is serious and likely to get worse. The uncertainty is paralyzing. Worst of all, the president has completely failed to handle the crisis and keeps trying to jam his anti-environmental agenda through even if the public is occupied by more immediate concerns.

I want you to know that we're still fighting ? because this is a fight we believe we can win. We saw proof of this on Sunday and again on Monday, when we successfully blocked Trump's slush fund in the first draft of this disastrous bailout bill. We are going to keep pushing, because we have to ? but also because this isn't the only fight we're up against right now. Hitting this month's goal is SO important. Here are a few reasons why: Because a federal judge just voided nearly 1 million acres of oil and gas leases, ruling that a Trump administration policy to cut public input out of the leasing process was illegal. There's a massive fight underway to re-secure that land for drilling ? even now, while everyone is distracted by the COVID-19 crisis! ? and we're campaigning to stop it. We need you on board. Donate to LCV today ? [link removed] Because the Trump administration is trying to gut the National Environmental Policy Act. That would mean agencies would no longer consider climate change when approving major projects like highways, pipelines, and other infrastructure proposals, and they could ignore public input. We're making a final urgent push to block the new rule, but we have to move quickly if we have any chance at all. You can help. Make a donation to the League of Conservation Voters today ? [link removed] Because the Trump administration is about to sell access to the area around the Grand Canyon to allow uranium mining. The Grand Canyon has been home to Indigenous communities, including the Havasupai, Hualapai, Hopi, and Navajo Nation communities, for millennia. Congress is pushing to block the sale, but we need major grassroots pressure if we have any chance of succeeding. Please ? make a donation today. Even $5 is enough to make a difference ? [link removed] Because the 2020 race is in full swing, and we need the environmental movement to be pushing ? HARD. Through our Change the Climate 2020 campaign, we're pushing presidential candidates to commit to serious plans to fight climate change, including their ideas to invest in communities that are hit hardest by its effects. The only way that happens is if the environmental movement mobilizes in a major way. We need YOUR help ? [link removed] Because even after Trump pulled the United States from the Paris Agreement, there's still a real shot at holding ourselves to the commitments we made as a country. After aggressive grassroots campaigns, state and local governments are setting their own emissions limits. This is stuff that doesn't always make front page news ? but it's huge, and it only happens when the environmental movement demands it. Friend ? your donation keeps this work going ? [link removed] The bottom line: we can't quit now, and we need your help to keep going in every single one of these fights. It feels like a lot, but it is because of this community ? because of people like you ? that we find the strength to keep going every single day. We truly couldn't do it without you.

Thank you for being a part of this work.

Onward,

Gene Karpinski
