Here are some updates from today.
* The GOP-controlled Wisconsin Legislature passed ([link removed]) new legislative maps first proposed by Gov. Tony Evers (D). But the new maps won't go into effect until November, a move state Sen. Melissa Agard (D) called "a poison pill." The maps now go to the governor.
* The U.S. Supreme Court gave ([link removed]) Special Counsel Jack Smith until Feb. 20 to file a response to former President Donald Trump's request to pause a lower court's ruling that he is not immune from prosecution for efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. The timeline suggests that the Supreme Court is not trying to expedite consideration of the case.
* In a challenge to Georgia's absentee ballot request deadline, state officials argued ([link removed]) that there is no private right of action under Section 202 of the Voting Rights Act. This is the fifth case where Republicans claim that voters can't sue to enforce the Voting Rights Act.
