** A Christian Guide to Political Engagement
------------------------------------------------------------
Andrew T. Walker
The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission
“The Nations Belong to God: A Christian Guide for Political Engagement” is a starting point for Christians to think about how to engage the political processes around them. The hope is that this document would cause us to step back and consider what our faith has to teach us about life in the public square.
In the face of an election year sure to be filled with angst, division, and fearmongering, those teachings will be all the more important for a witness that is bold and hopeful. The hope flowing from a confidence that no matter who occupies the White House, Congress, or seats of power, our citizenship lies in heaven, and our work as ambassadors continues.

Abortion supporters often claim that abortion is necessary to address the mental-health issues that women may experience during or after pregnancy. In fact, this claim is specious and unsubstantiated, based not on empirical evidence but on speculation. Those who make this argument ignore the vast research literature on the mental-health consequences of abortion and instead attempt to ground their argument in the unsupported notion that abortion can and will reduce mental-health risks.

University of Maryland economist Melissa Kearney has sparked wide-spread public debate about the decline of marriage and its impact on economic mobility, child well-being, and inequality. Her recent book, The Two-Parent Privilege, offers a data-driven review of marriage’s decline, and what that means for kids. On February 22, she will offer a policy-focused presentation on Capitol Hill, followed by a panel discussion with EPPC’s Patrick T. Brown, Alyssa Rosenberg of the Washington Post, and the Niskanen Center’s Joshua McCabe.
Please join us for a spirited conversation on what—if anything—public policy can do to bolster marriage in the 21st century.
