Good news, Jack! After companies slashed their advertising budgets in fear of a looming recession, they are finally starting to invest more in advertising and revenue is rebounding.

Bad news: Big Tech, like Google, Facebook, and Amazon, are the only ones reaping the benefits, leaving little left for struggling news organizations like Daily Kos.

This isn't anything new, Big Tech has been sucking up an ever-growing share of this coveted revenue stream for nearly a decade now. It is now almost impossible for news organizations to survive on advertising revenue.

News organizations have had to evolve their business models in order to survive. Some have expensive subscriptions or lock up their content behind a paywall. Neither of these options felt like they supported Daily Kos's mission of fighting for democracy. Instead, we asked our readers and activists to donate a few dollars at a time to support our work and keep our content accessible to everyone.

Today, grassroots donations make up the bulk of our revenue to cover our expenses. We prefer this way, we know that in order to keep operating, we have to fight and deliver for what you believe in.
