Dear Friends and Community,

As we wrote in December ([link removed]) , Belle Shayer, the last living co-founder of Breast Cancer Action, passed away. Starting in 1988, with Elenore Pred, Linda Reyes, and Susan Claymon, they were like a speeding locomotive on fire! Belle remained active and connected to our work for 30 years, when she first encouraged people to tell their legislators “…to find the money for breast cancer the way they did for heart disease, AIDS, and war.”

Read our latest piece honoring her memory, “Fierce Activism Cloaked in Grace.” ([link removed])

Yes, we all feel the loss of our elegant activist, known and respected for her class and sass. But our founders are in the DNA of this organization and Belle's light and love will continue to live on in our hearts, and will continue to guide our work. Her contributions are too many to highlight, but please take a moment to read what she will always mean to us. ([link removed])

And remember her Mother’s Day call to action: “Don’t let your epitaph read She died without causing a scene!”

In solidarity & in it for the long haul,

Zoe Christopher
BCAction Program Officer
