New advice about ‘shielding’ for those in the
extremely vulnerable group
The government has published new advice for those in the very high-risk group. If you are in this group, you will receive a letter from the NHS with advice about shielding. The full guidance can be found here.
Community hubs – volunteer appeal
We are working with Oldham Food Bank and Action Together on the co-ordinated delivery of food, medicines and other supplies to our most vulnerable who are required to self-isolate.
This will specifically be for people who are unable to leave the house and have no friends of family to help. More information will follow soon.

Markets are closed
Oldham Council-run markets are now closed in line with government guidance to protect people from the spread of coronavirus. This affects:
• Tommyfield Market, it’s outdoor markets and the car boot sale
• Town Centre Street Market on Fridays and Saturdays
• Royton District Markets
• Shaw District Markets
A number of traders who sell food and essential products are offering home delivery to support residents at this difficult time. Delivery will either be free if there is a minimum spend or a charge will be applied to cover costs. Visit Facebook page for more information.
Council Tax and energy bills
Special payment plans can be agreed with people who are experiencing short term difficulty paying council tax. For example, payment over nine months, with no payment until July. For more information go here.
New emergency measures with the energy industry have been agreed by the government to protect those most in need. Pre-payment and pay-as-you go customers will remain supplied with energy through challenging times and all customers in financial distress will be supported with immediate effect.
For more information go here.

Beware of fraudulent websites scammers. We are aware of an increase in scams talking about coronavirus. Always be vigilant of sharing your details if approached online. More help and advice can be found here https://bit.ly/2U0HgDR

Waste and Recycling
Recycle for Greater Manchester have closed all household and waste recycling centres. Please put your bins out as usual on their collection day and if they are not emptied take them back into your property. Side waste will not be collected.
Funeral services
Sadly, in order to comply with the government’s social distancing guidelines,
funeral services are affected in the following ways:
Mourners at services in Hollinwood Crematorium Chapel will be
restricted to a maximum of 10
Services prior to interment and extended services will also be
suspended during this period
Access into the crematorium is extremely limited and both the burial and the scattering of cremated remains is suspended
Mourners are also being encouraged to wait in their cars or outside the
chapel ahead of services, rather than congregating in the waiting room
Mourners must abide by the national social distancing guidelines (two metres)
at all services, both inside and outside the Chapel
To ensure your safety in-between services at the Chapel, additional cleaning processes are in place to ensure all public areas are disinfected. Service books have also been removed from the chapel to prevent any cross contamination and hand shaking is also being discouraged with ministers, celebrants and funeral directors until further notice. Hand sanitiser is available to all mourners, at the entrance to the chapel.
Keep safe.
