Friends –

As many of you know, I’m a sportsman. I’m happiest hiking the Cascade Mountains, fly fishing onWashington’s rivers or clam digging at the beach. This State is blessed with wonderful natural resources and I believe it’s absolutely critical that we care for the land in a way the ensures our future generations get to enjoy it as much as I do!

That’s why I was thrilled when my friend Jaime Herrera Beutler announced her campaign for Commissioner of Public Lands. Her skillset and her interests are so well suited for this role, I can’t think of a better candidate to put forth.

For those of you who don’t know, the Public Lands Commissioner runs the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). All told, DNR sets policy for almost 40% of our state – whether it’s the 3 million acres in the state's land trust, the 2.6 million acres of beaches, tidelands lake and rivers, or the 12 million acres of public and private lands.

Jaime spent a dozen years in Congress and while there, she scored some big victories to improve the way our forests are run and provide resources to fight wild land fires. But there’s a lot more to be done, and frankly, the work must be done right here at home. In fact, her main priority is to help end the cycle of annual forest fires and smoke that has choked our region over the last several summers.

I know from experience, that a Statewide campaign is expensive and down ballot races don’t get the attention others do but are just as critical to the future of our state. That’s why I’m asking all my friends to support her race with a donation. We know she’s going to need about $2 million dollars to reach voters across the State.

When I ran statewide, Jaime was there to help. Politics is a team sport and Jaime is a teammate I’m thrilled to help out. We need her on our Statewide Republican Team. A recent poll shows Jaime leading all seven candidates in this race, regardless of party.
