Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good afternoon!
We’re entering another week of work on the hill.
Last week, I was disappointed to see the impeachment articles against Secretary Mayorkas narrowly fail passage in the House. The Republican conference was not in full attendance due to illness. However, it is expected that every member will be present and accounted for this evening and we will once again vote to hold Secretary Mayorkas to account for the multi-year crisis at the Southern Border.
After I left DC last week, I had a great time traveling around the district. A couple of highlights include the high turnout we had at my office hours in the Town of Brookfield, and the Service Academy ceremony on Saturday where I had the opportunity to recognize this year's nominees to our nation’s military academies.
Keep reading to hear more about last week's events. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office if you have any questions.
Have a great week!
- Scott

Service Academy Nomination Ceremony
This weekend, I was excited to have the opportunity to meet with the candidates I nominated to our U.S. service academies.
I am continually impressed by the candidates that apply year after year, and this year’s class is no exception. I am proud to have nominated a group of outstanding candidates from our communities in Southeast Wisconsin.
As always, I am grateful for our board members who took time out of their personal schedules to help evaluate and select the future leaders of our county. This entire process would not be possible without them.
If you know a student interested in attending one of our nation’s military academies, I strongly encourage them to submit an application to my office.
Mayorkas Impeachment Update
Last week, I voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The final roll call on the measure was 214 yeas and 216 nays.
Secretary Mayorkas has completely breached public trust. You need not look any further than his flip-flopping under oath at Congressional hearings about the operational control of the border. While he insisted that he did have operational control over the border, he quickly changed tune and admitted to me under oath that the opposite was true.
His failure to act lead to the House's vote. This vote was not taken hastily but follows a nearly year-long investigation by the House Homeland Security Committee into the causes, costs, and consequences of the unprecedented border crisis. Secretary Mayorkas refuses to comply with numerous detention requirements and misused parole authority as spelled out by the Immigration and Nationality Act.
This has led to the release of more than 3.3 million illegal immigrants into the United States, and although CBP has disclosed that 172 individuals whose names appear on the terrorist watchlist were apprehended at the border in FY23, Secretary Mayorkas has failed to do anything meaningful to further secure the country. For these reasons, I voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas.
Documenting Biden’s Misguided Energy Agenda
President Biden’s war on American energy has made our country more dependent on foreign energy, propping up our adversaries, all while weakening our energy independence. The cost is ultimately passed down to Americans at the gas pump and in our energy bills.
Watch my latest floor speech to hear about the ways President Biden is making energy more expensive and our country less secure.
Naval Academy Summer Seminar and Summer STEM Applications
The Naval Academy Summer Seminar and Summer STEM Applications are open and will remain open until April 15.
Naval Academy Summer Seminar offers an opportunity for rising high school seniors to experience USNA for one week. Participants learn about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation's future leaders.
The Summer STEM Program is a great catalyst to initiate the pursuit of a future in science and engineering. Summer STEM is an opportunity for participants to create, build, and explore in world-class lab facilities, working alongside USNA’s distinguished faculty and Midshipmen.
