President Biden has made judicial nominations a priority. We've made great progress for a more representative judiciary and repairing the damage caused by Trump’s appointments. It’s been very successful — 66% of his nominations have gone to women judges, and ⅔ of all nominations went to racial or ethnic minorities. Biden was making great progress towards a judiciary that’s representative of the people it serves, but a combination of Republican obstruction and delays in making nominations has led to a significant plateau in the rate of confirmations.
2024 is critical: Biden must quickly reverse this trend and start confirming judges at a record rate once again. It’s imperative that Biden confirm over 70 judges so he exceeds the Trump administration's total of 234 confirmations.
Each judicial appointment is a crucial step towards a court system that embodies the people it serves. We must encourage Biden and Senate Democrats to confirm additional nominees from a diverse range of backgrounds.
