Friend, I write to you today with a heavy heart. Since the Israeli government began carrying out military operations in Rafah on February 9, the situation in Gaza has escalated to a new level of emergency. At Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), we fear for the lives of the civilians of Gaza, and for our medical humanitarian teams and patients.
As aerial bombardment of the area continues, more than a million people—many living in tents and makeshift shelters—now face a dramatic escalation in this ongoing massacre. Nowhere in Gaza is safe. Repeated forced displacements over the months have pushed people to Rafah, where they are trapped in a tiny patch of land and have no escape options.
MSF has been responding to the dramatic escalation of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza since October 7. In recent days, our staff have reported shots fired at people inside Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza. Two people were killed, and five others injured, including one nurse who was severely wounded. Medical staff are afraid to move within and around the hospital due to fear of being shot.
Your support is urgently needed as we continue to respond to this emergency in Gaza without slowing down our lifesaving work in more than 70 countries worldwide. Rush your gift today, and it will be put right to work providing care to patients in Gaza, Sudan, Haiti, and around the globe. |
