John,
When Westchester County Executive and Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s moderate primary opponent George Latimer was asked about taking $600,000 from anti-Palestinian lobby group AIPAC at a Black History Month event last Saturday, he lashed out and made racist, Islamophobic comments attacking Jamaal.
This isn’t just an obscene, ugly lie — it’s the kind of dangerous rhetoric that stokes anti-Muslim hate crimes and could put Jamaal’s safety at risk.
Black Westchester reports, “When asked for proof to back up his statement, Latimer pulled out his phone to show her an article he couldn’t find, took her email, and promised to email the female voter the proof. When she asked that he didn’t forget to send the email, he replied to her, “You probably won’t read it or believe it anyway,” as he walked away.”
It’s shameful that Latimer resorted to spreading disinformation about his opponent when confronted about the fact that 40% of his campaign’s fundraising is from the GOP-funded, corporate-backed lobby group who hand-selected him to run against Jamaal in an attempt to stifle our progressive movement.
In June, voters in New York’s 16th district will choose between an AIPAC shill or a progressive incumbent standing on the right side of history. Let’s do everything in our power now to defend Jamaal’s seat and keep a real leader for the people in Congress.
In solidarity,
