Trump makes desperate attempt to save bonkers immunity claim
The disgraced ex-president made a final effort to save his preposterous "presidential immunity" claim from the chopping block on Monday when he asked the Supreme Court to stay an appeals court panel’s unanimous rejection of his bullshit argument. The action could stall criminal proceedings over the serially indicted grifter's efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Trump previously argued that he was "totally" immune from criminal prosecution while in office for his role on Jan. 6, which two lower courts have already flatly rejected. The timing of the trial is of utmost importance because it could unfold during, or just after, the 2024 presidential election. If the conservative-stacked Supreme Court agrees to hear Trump’s appeal, it would have to decide whether to fast-track proceedings in light of the looming election or cave to the Republican frontrunner's demands to postpone the hearing until after the November election.

Senate passes aid package for Ukraine and Israel, but its future is uncertain in the dysfunctional GOP House
Senate Democrats and Republicans joined together Tuesday morning to pass a $95 billion national security package that includes critical aid for three key US allies — Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan — days after radical right-wing misfits in the GOP-controlled House killed an earlier effort to link those funds to changes in US immigration and border policy they themselves had long demanded. Today's emergency standalone aid bill stands little chance of advancing in the lower chamber, where Trump's MAGA minions are disingenuously demanding that any aid for war-torn Ukraine be withheld until — wait for it — America’s southern border is "secure." Did you catch that? Republicans clearly cannot pass today's aid bill because it does not contain the provisions to "secure the border" that Republicans killed last week. It sounds like toddler logic because it IS toddler logic.

Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen accuses Israeli government of "textbook war crime" while describing "humanitarian horror show" in Gaza
Speaking on the Senate floor on Monday, Van Hollen said that any further US aid should be contingent on Israel adhering to its obligations under international law while describing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza in grim terms. He noted that scores of small children and pregnant women are severely malnourished and that Gazans are starving to death in part because Israel has severely limited the amount of aid coming into the country. "Kids in Gaza are now dying from the deliberate withholding of food. In addition to the horror of that news, one other thing is true. That is a war crime. It is a textbook war crime. And that makes those who orchestrate it war criminals."

Democrats revolt against party leaders in race to replace Sen. Menendez
Anti-establishment sentiment that was evident in New Jersey's last Senate election is now becoming an early and dominating theme of the primary contest between first lady Tammy Murphy and her primary opponent, Rep. Andy Kim, who announced his run the day after Bob Menendez and his many gold bars were indicted last fall, seeking to harness a message of badly needed reform. The race has taken on implications that go beyond the two candidates themselves. On Saturday, the three-term House member notched a key victory showing that his message is breaking through, handily defeating Murphy in her home county in the New Jersey’s first Democratic nominating convention. Years of pent-up frustration with the state's byzantine primary process where county political chairs can significantly tip the scales for their favored candidate has burst into public discourse in a way it never has before. To critics, Murphy represents a broken establishment, while "Andy Kim is a cause," said one party insider who was granted anonymity to speak candidly.

Liz Cheney questions Trump's sanity after eye-popping NATO threat
Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney blasted the disgraced ex-president's suggestion that Russia would be free to attack "delinquent" NATO allies with impunity, saying "no sane American president would encourage" such an action. Correct. Also, for the record, no sane American president has yet to do so. For the sake of humanity, let's keep it that way in November.
