WorkWorkA Concrete Crisis Has the UK Literally Crumbling - WIRED (No paywall) As it rolls from one political crisis to another, it’s hard not to think of Britain as metaphorically crumbling. Now, it seems, significant pieces of the country are literally structurally unsound. More than 150 schools, colleges, and nurseries in England have been ordered to close parts of their buildings due to the looming threat of collapse—just days before the start of the new school year. Twenty-seven health care facilities are being urgently reviewed; seven hospitals need to be rebuilt. The cause of the panic is Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete, whose acronym “RAAC” has suddenly entered the British political vernacular.
WorkThe Hidden Injustice of Cyberattacks - WIRED (No paywall) Talk about the promise and the peril of artificial intelligence is everywhere these days. But for many low-income families, communities of color, military veterans, people with disabilities, and immigrant communities, AI is a back-burner issue. WorkWorkTrump Steps Up, Helping Biden Just When the President Needs Him That does not mean that age is no longer a political liability for Mr. Biden, who at 81 is already the oldest president in American history and would be 86 at the end of a second term. While Mr. Trump is close behind him at 77, the special counsel’s characterization of the president as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” proved searing and damaging.
WorkSenate Pushes Ukraine Aid Bill Toward Passage as G.O.P. Splinters Mr. Trump in particular has been railing against the legislation from the campaign trail. In recent days, he has cheered G.O.P. senators for killing an earlier version of the bill that included a bipartisan deal on border security, argued on social media that it was “stupid” for the United States to offer foreign aid instead of loans, and encouraged Russia to “do whatever the hell they want” to NATO members that did not spend enough money on their own defense. WorkSelf-Love Is Important, but We Mammals Are Stuck With Sex By the time the two scientists and other colleagues published their parthenogenesis finding in 2021, the two unusual chicks, or parthenotes, were long gone. They’d both died young, at almost 2 years and almost 8. Their mothers both had many other offspring, though, conceived with their mates in the usual way (despite headlines declaring virgin births).

Wages will not be the only factor in deciding when and by how much borrowing costs come down this year but they are an important part of the mix. WorkUK pay growth slows less than expected as workers bid up wages The chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, said: “It’s good news that real wages are on the up for the sixth month in a row and unemployment remains low, but the job isn’t done. Our tax cuts are part of a plan to get people back to work so we can grow the economy – but we must stick with it.” WorkWorkUS Senate moves forward $95bn Ukraine and Israel aid package “Open the champagne, pop the cork! The Senate Democrat leader and the Republican leader are on their way to Kyiv,” Paul said, launching the filibuster. He continued: “They’re taking your money to Kyiv. They didn’t have much time – really no time and no money – to do anything about our border.” WorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkArista Networks (ANET) Q4 2023 Earnings Call Transcript This article is a transcript of this conference call produced for The Motley Fool. WorkWorkGrading USMNT players' January moves: Reyna, Steffen, Vasquez, more This move still wasn\'t official as of this writing, but sources tell ESPN colleague Kyle Bonagura that Acosta will sign with the Fire as a free agent. At age 28, Acosta still finds himself in the national team mix, though his spot is under pressure from the likes of Cardoso and Lennard Maloney.
