Chloe’s Lunar New Year

This picture book for ages 4-8 tells the story of Chloe and her family who prepare for Lunar New Year. They buy new shoes, lay out good-luck oranges in a bowl, decorate the red envelope and make a crispy turnip cake. Everyone comes together to cook a fantastic feast. The backmatter contains educational information about the Lunar New Year celebration in Taiwan.

This lesson plan for grades 8-12 helps students reflect on their own social media use. In addition, it compares that information with the data in a recent Pew Research Center survey, considers their responses and ideas based on the results and explores how race, gender and socioeconomic status impact online use.
