Jack,

The overall increase in grocery prices has started to cool off following record highs, but consider this: In 2019, grocery chain Kroger was advertising cereal for $2.49. Fast forward to today and that same cereal, same size, same everything is $2 more. That’s a price hike of 80%!

And, if like so many U.S. households, you’ve been shopping around for better deals, your options might be slashed soon.

The Federal Trade Commission is now expected to issue a ruling on the proposed Kroger-Albertsons merger — a looming disaster for millions of households across the country — in February. The deal is facing increased public scrutiny and Washington State filed to block the merger last week.

The $25 billion dollar deal, one of the biggest mergers ever, would create a retail behemoth second in size only to Walmart, combining 5,000 supermarket locations and incorporating over 25 brands — including Safeway, Jewel, Ralphs, Vons, Harris Teeter, Shaws and Pavillions — into one mega company.

To put it bluntly, this deal is an antitrust travesty. In a time of record food prices and skyrocketing corporate profits, it should be criminal — in the moral sense — to even suggest it.

You don’t have to be an economist to realize that competition benefits consumers, driving down prices to an affordable level. But, just 9 years ago, the FTC allowed a different Albertsons merger to move forward with Safeway. Consumers are still paying the price from THAT mega-merger today.

Thankfully, new FTC Chair Lina Khan has been holding listening sessions with everyday people about how a potential Kroger-Albertsons merger would affect them. Now, she needs to hear from us.

Send a message to the FTC demanding they reject the deal.

Kroger-Albertsons executives claim the merger will mean "lower prices." The reality is Kroger-Albertsons executives and a few top shareholders on Wall Street are the only people who will benefit.

Thank you for fighting back against corporate greed and demanding the FTC put working people first.

Thank you for taking action today,
