John, one thing that has always bothered me about politicians is how they never actually introduce themselves before asking for donations.

So, it's important to me that I take a quick moment to introduce myself to you and tell you what I stand for, BEFORE I ask for your contribution toward my campaign's $10,000 End of Month fundraising goal:

MY LIFE
I was born here in Los Angeles. I'm a veteran of the United States Navy. I am a former Member of Congress who flipped an ultra-competitive district that took back the House for Democrats. I am an advocate for education and public schools. I just finished serving President Biden as one of his Under Secretaries of Defense. I have a wife, Jacki, and together we have two young boys.

MY FAMILY STORY
My dad is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and struggled with his health from the service for years. Not many people know this, but my dad was actually exposed to Agent Orange during his service. And, my mom was a public school cafeteria worker. My parents worked hard to make a good life for me, and I'll never forget those roots.

MY RECORD OF SERVICE
I joined the U.S. Navy right out of high school after I earned an ROTC scholarship. I served my country for 11 years. After I finished my military service, I became a community advocate for education and supported Yellow Ribbon programs for veterans, and was Michelle Obama's advisory board for her Higher Reach Higher Initiative for college access. When I was elected to Congress in the 2018 "Blue Wave" election, my office helped return $550,000 to my constituents, and secured $136 Million in non-COVID grants for local infrastructure and services. After President Biden named me as one of his Under Secretaries of Defense, I helped secure our military members' health care rights, reproductive rights, and assisted in creating an independent counsel to examine sexual assault cases in our military. And finally, going back to my roots as an education advocate, I ensured that Universal Pre-K education was available across the globe to our servicemembers' families.

MY REQUEST OF YOU
I know what working families in my district are going through — working long hours to support themselves, and feeling like no one has their back in Congress.

I'm running for Congress in this key district for Democrats because I have seen firsthand what it's like for working families. But I know I'm going to need your help to win.

We have a very smart plan to contact and turnout voters, but we need to reach our $10,000 End of Month fundraising goal to stay on track. I know I can be an effective leader and fighter again in Congress for working families, so I'm humbly asking you: Will you please consider making a contribution to my Democratic campaign?
