Rep. Clyde Applauds GA State Senate's Investigation of Fani Willis

As you know, Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones recently approved and announced a special committee to investigate allegations surrounding Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. From Willis’ now-confirmed intimate relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade to her troubling record of misusing taxpayer dollars, the Georgia State Senate Special Committee certainly has plenty to uncover.

In response to this major first step in delivering accountability to both the Peach State and the nation, I recently sent a letter to State Senator William Cowsert, who was named Chairman of the Special Committee, applauding this critical development and outlining new allegations. Additionally, as the sole Georgia Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, I offered to assist the committee in their investigation to uncover whether federal taxpayer dollars appropriated by Congress have been misused by Fani Willis. Please know that I stand ready to help with these ongoing efforts, and I remain committed to holding Fani Willis accountable for her potential pattern of misconduct regarding federal funds.

Rep. Clyde's Bill to Redesignate Houthis as FTO Advanced by Committee

As you may know, tensions in the Middle East have drastically increased following Iran-backed Hamas terrorists’ brutal October 7th attack on Israel. In fact, there have been more than 160 attacks on U.S. troops in the region since mid-October, all carried out by Iranian proxy groups, such as the Houthis. Regrettably, one of President Biden’s first acts as Commander-in-Chief was reversing a Trump Administration policy by removing the Houthis from the State Department's list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO).

In response, I recently reintroduced H.R. 6046, the Standing Against Houthi Aggression Act, to redesignate the Houthis as an FTO and reinstate the Trump Administration’s sanctions on the group. I’m excited to share that last week, the House Foreign Affairs Committee voted to advance my legislation by a bipartisan vote of 34-13. This development means that my critical bill — which is direly needed to combat Iran’s aggression — will soon be considered for a vote on the House floor. I look forward to updating you on this important matter in the coming weeks.

Rep. Clyde Celebrates Takedown of Biden-Senate Amnesty Sellout

Last week, Senate negotiators released the infamous and much-anticipated $118.3 billion supplemental aid package that included everything from $60 billion in Ukraine funding to America Last border policies. The legislation was on life support just hours later, as conservatives tore the bill text apart. In fact, the backlash was so severe that the horrendous bill was officially dead within 24 hours — marking the quickest and most successful takedown of a major piece of legislation that I’ve seen during my time in Washington.

Folks, this is a tremendous victory! The Biden-Senate Amnesty Sellout would have done nothing to secure the border. Truthfully, this legislation, which contained numerous policies to incentivize illegal immigration, would only worsen the ongoing illegal invasion.

Here are some of the radical policies that Swampy Senators and the White House tucked in with Ukraine funding:

Codify catch and release
Allow up to 1.8 million illegal aliens to enter the U.S. before temporarily closing parts of the border
Fund sanctuary cities and NGOs sending illegals around the country
Subsidize free, taxpayer-funded legal counsel to illegal aliens
Expand parole instead of limiting it
Increase green cards by 50,000 per year for 5 years
Provide work permits for adult children of H-1B visa holders

While I’m incredibly pleased that this monstrosity died in the Senate after failing to garner enough support to move forward, I’m disappointed that the Swamp is still trying to betray the American people. The Schumer-McConnell backup plan is a standalone foreign aid bill that sends $60 billion — more than the entire budget of the U.S. Marine Corps — to Ukraine. Americans want real border security to secure our borders, not another hefty check to defend Ukraine’s borders. Please know that if this America Last legislation does pass the Senate and comes before the House, my conservative colleagues and I will do everything in our power to take it down — just like we did with the Biden-Senate Border Amnesty bill.

Week Ahead

Lawmakers are back in Washington this week to consider legislation including:

H.R. 7176, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act: Last month, President Biden issued a pause on all pending approvals of liquified natural gas (LNG) exports. This misguided move will only weaken U.S. energy security, embolden our adversaries, kill good-paying jobs, and drastically raise energy prices. In response to the Biden Administration’s latest attack on American energy, House Republicans will consider H.R. 7176 to lift all restrictions on LNG imports and exports, with strong protections to prohibit trade with a person or foreign country under sanction or listed as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Additionally, House Republicans will bring back articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas as soon as this week. With Majority Leader Scalise back in Washington, we will successfully pass this resolution and finally hold Mayorkas accountable for violating our laws and failing to uphold his oath of office.
