How Idaho’s horrifying total abortion ban is dehumanizing families.

John,

They went to the doctor for a routine ultrasound 12 weeks into Jen’s second pregnancy, and immediately knew something was wrong.

A specialist told Jen that the fetus most likely had Turner syndrome, a relatively rare chromosomal disorder affecting about 1 in 2500 babies assigned female at birth who are missing part of their chromosome structure.

It frequently leads to miscarriages, and in instances where the mother is unable to terminate in time, it can be a life-threatening pregnancy complication.

Then came the worst conversation of Jen’s life.

A graphic featuring a photo of Jen Adkins, an Idaho mom, with a conversation she had with her doctor, which reads: “Doctor: The longer you stay pregnant, the more at risk you are of developing complications of your own. Jen: Then, what’s our option here? Doctor: Because you’re in the state of Idaho, we cannot provide a termination for you. We cannot provide an abortion.” This conversation is excerpted from a CNN article titled “Fleeing under the cover of darkness.”

Jen told CNN that she was “sent home to grieve” because Idaho’s total abortion ban meant that her doctors could not help her.

Instead Jen and John were forced to spend $1500 they didn’t have to travel 400 miles for an appointment out of state.

The couple said they were made to feel like criminals “fleeing under the cover of darkness” – all to get a routine medical procedure.

This is the price of Idaho’s cruel abortion ban, and sadly Jen’s story is only one of millions for women and pregnant people across America.

My opponent Mike Simpson had the chance to protect women like Jen and make access to abortion a federal right – overriding state bans like ours. But he voted NO.

If you want to help the next woman in Jen’s shoes, please consider a contribution to the Northwest Abortion Access Fund that supports women in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington who need financial assistance to get an abortion.

If you want to put an end to this national nightmare and guarantee abortion access for all women, then please contribute to my campaign to flip ID-02.

I’m grateful for Jen’s courage in telling her story so openly, and I know that behind her anguish there are many more women across Idaho and the country who are suffering in silence.

But there is a path forward. If we hold the White House and the Senate majority this year, and fight for every single House seat to flip the House back for Democrats – we can pass a federal law protecting reproductive freedoms.

We don’t have the luxury of writing off seats just because the odds are stacked against us. I’m fighting for Idaho like lives are on the line – because they are.

More soon,

David

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
