Black History Month is an especially great time to celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of Black Americans.

But we cannot celebrate this month without also recognizing the injustice and inequality that Black Americans experience in this country.

Maryland's history with slavery, Jim Crow, and, now, mass incarceration shows that we’ve still got big changes to make to ensure a better future.

From touring Black Wall Street to hosting a panel on Re-entry and Small Businesses and visiting the Park Heights Community Health Alliance, I’m committed to uplifting the people and businesses that call our beloved state home.

Economic justice is essential to revitalizing and strengthening Maryland. We need to reinvest in Baltimore and ensure that the communities that have called it home for generations can thrive and grow.

I have spent my time as a businessman and Congressman providing solutions by supporting equal economic opportunity, voting for bills that reform our racist criminal justice system, and getting resources to those who need them.
