We’re standing at the edge of a cliff. For the first time, our planet has experienced average temperatures above a 1.5C threshold for an entire year. [1] The world has been ravaged by extreme weather. Many in the UK are unable to pay their bills and heat their homes. [2]

Now, more than ever, we need a government that will put the needs of the people and our planet first. With a general election coming soon, the Labour Party currently has a solid lead in the polls. But despite this, their policies are not up to scratch.

Just last week, Labour party leader Keir Starmer hugely scaled back plans to invest an extra £28 billion a year into green jobs and industries, folding like a house of cards in the face of attacks from the Conservatives, fossil fuel oil giants and right-wing media. [3]

Will you help us call on Starmer to renew his promises for “a fairer, greener future”?

This isn’t just about climate. This level of investment could transform the lives of all of us in the UK by tackling the cost of living crisis. It could lower our bills, warm our homes, and provide cleaner and more affordable public transport. [4]

And it could pay for itself over time by creating jobs, boosting the economy, and bringing huge benefits to society.

This is a vision worth fighting for, not retreating from.

The Labour party seem to think this u-turn will make their manifesto resilient to Conservative attack. But we know from our polling that most people in the UK want to see stronger action on the environment, and that Labour risks losing voters if they water down their climate plans - so it makes no sense! [5] [6]

The truth is that Labour’s £28bn a year green investment promise was something that set them apart from most other major parties.

We know that political parties are considering what to put in their election manifestos, so now is the time to speak up. Together, we can win the change that this country - and the planet - are crying out for. [7]
