Are you a service worker in Atlanta interested in building worker power? Atlanta DSA is partnering with Restaurant Opportunities Center to host our first ever service worker roundtable! Join us to meet other service workers in the area, learn about your rights at work, and for an informal discussion of the labor landscape in Atlanta and how you can get involved in workplace organizing.

Whether you're a barista, a cook, or a server, all are welcome! Bring a coworker and learn more about DSA's labor work here.

It's happening on Sunday, February 18, 2pm at Red's Beer Garden, 1328 Boulevard SE, Atlanta, GA 30315

📝 Socialist Night School: What is Capitalism? 📝

Join us for "What Is Capitalism," our second Socialist Night School event of 2024, and our first hybrid in-person/virtual night school since the start of the pandemic!

This Socialist Night School session will provide an introductory explanation of:

• What Capitalism is,
• Why DSA wants to abolish it, and
• How you can help!

🌹 This session is designed for newer members and those who are relatively new to socialism, but everyone is welcome.

If you come in person, please be safe and wear a mask to help slow the spread of COVID. If you can't attend in person, RSVP for the zoom link.

If attending in person, this event will be held at 711 Catherine St SW, Atlanta, GA.

🍻Eat, Drink, and Be Marxist! 🍻

Eat, Drink, and Be Marxist is BACK! Every Third Thursday, DSA members will gather at Red's Beer Garden to socialize, make connections, and discuss the upcoming business for Saturday's General Meeting.

Be prepared to meet someone new, and drink responsibly! This event will officially end no later than 9pm, but may end earlier -- however, the beer garden stays open until 10.

Since COVID is still a risk, we ask that you only attend if you're fully vaccinated. We'll be meeting up in the outdoor patio area!

✊ Workplace Roundtable ✊

Ever thought about organizing your workplace, but don't know where to start? Join ATL DSA's labor committee for an in-person workplace roundtable at 711 Catherine St SW on Monday, February 19 from 7:00-9:00 PM.

This roundtable will be an informal discussion on workplace organizing strategies, and what challenges people are facing in their own workplaces. Be prepared to introduce yourself, and share your experiences and advice with comrades on having workplace organizing conversations, strategies, and more! This event is open to members and non-members of all levels of experience!

  🌹General Meeting 2/24 🌹

Save the date, comrades! This month's General Meeting will be held on Saturday, February 24. New member orientation starts at 11:45 AM. Potluck starts at 2 PM and the meeting runs from 3-5 PM.

✊ Save the Date: Union Reform 101 ✊

All over the country, workers are organizing on the shop floor to build strong, militant, and democratic unions. From Teamsters for a Democratic Union (TDU) to Unite all Workers for Democracy (UAWD), the impact of union reform movements is loud and clear. Labor union reform caucuses have helped elect union leadership that's willing to put up a fight - helping Teamsters secure a historic union contract, and leading UAW to launch an unprecedented strike led by the rank-and-file.

Join Atlanta DSA's labor committee on Sunday, February 25 for an info session and workshop on union reform caucuses. We'll cover topics like: What is the goal of union reform? What are some examples of successful union reform movements? How can you get involved in your local union reform efforts?

This workshop is open to anyone, although union members are strongly encouraged to attend.

🌹Attend Labor Notes Conference in April!🌹

The Labor Notes Conference is being held this April 19-21 in Chicago, and Atlanta DSA is offering partial scholarships for members to attend. If you're interested in attending to represent Atlanta DSA, please fill out this application by midnight on Friday, Feb 16th. We will aim to get back to applicants by Tuesday Feb 20th.

Including fights and housing, it's expected to cost around $600 for each attendee. Priority will go to applicants who cannot afford to pay full cost, are unable to receive a scholarship elsewhere, are active in Atlanta DSA’s labor work, or are a union member or organizing in a strategic industry. The Steering Committee will approve applications before the March 1st Early Bird Registration deadline.
