1) Jeff Bezos Will Save $600 Million by Moving From Seattle to Florida
Jeff Bezos just sold $2 billion of Amazon stock.
Regular Hotline readers will recall that last year when Bezos — one of the 10 richest people on the planet — announced that he was moving his residence from Washington to Florida, we strongly suspected that taxes were a major factor in that decision. Florida has no capital gains tax and Washington recently enacted its first-ever capital gains tax at 7%. We calculated that Bezos would save hundreds of millions of dollars, but he denied taxes were a consideration.
Now our friends at the news agency Center Square have confirmed that we were right. Bezos recently revealed that, yes, he will sell 50 million shares of Amazon stock through early 2025. The value of this stock is estimated at $10 billion. His tax savings by being a Florida resident: $600 million.
That’s money that will now be invested or spent in South Florida, not the Seattle area. We wonder how many more Seattle billionaires will follow in Bezos’ footsteps before the left admits there is a Laffer Curve - higher taxes can mean less revenue.
Welcome to Florida, Mr. Bezos.

2) DC Jury Penalizes Mark Steyn $1 Million for Climate Denial
In a frightening ruling that climate change zealots will surely seize upon to silence global warming critics, a Washington D.C. jury (of course) awarded climate scientist $1 million in his libel suit against columnist Mark Steyn.
[link removed]
Why this sizable damage award? Steyn made some offensive comments about Mr. Mann “torturing data” in a column, but if questioning the integrity of a political adversary is a crime, then your Hotline editors would be multi-millionaires today.
Steyn’s real “crime” here is that he dared question Mann’s infamous “Hockey Stick” chart, alleging to show a rapid rise in temperatures due to fossil fuel use.
The climate lobby insists this is “settled science.” Sure. As unimpeachable as the phantom “population bomb;” the idea that lockdowns were necessary to combat Covid; the Y2K hoax; and other doomsday hoaxes. The left would have us return to the days when people were imprisoned for questioning the Flat Earth Society.
“I hope this verdict sends a message that falsely attacking climate scientists is not protected speech,” Mann gloated in a statement.
Alas, it DOES send that message.
This verdict is an assault on free speech. It won’t advance scientific inquiry, but retard it. It should be overturned.

3) Bus-ted
If you think EVs have been a debacle, wait until you hear about the fiasco with Biden's electric buses.
The Institute for Energy Research has been investigating ([link removed]) what has happened with the $5 billion over five years that Congress authorized to pay for electric buses for schools in districts that could not afford them otherwise.
These funds were supposed to be directed to low-income areas and “school districts in areas most affected by air pollution, and other environmental justice factors.” The districts could receive up to the full cost of 25 buses.
Here’s what IER found. “So far, the EPA has spent $1.84 billion from the fund, on 5,103 electric buses. That averages out to more than $360,000 per bus—3 to 6 times more than diesel buses that cost between $65,000 and $100,000 each.”
[link removed]
According to an investigation by Fox Business:
"Some cities have taken multimillion-dollar losses on inoperable e-buses."
These are poor cities with failing schools and they are wasting millions of dollars on buses that don't work?

4) Hogan Puts Maryland on the Senate Map
Until Friday the race for US Senate in Maryland was strictly a Democratic primary affair between Congressman David Trone and Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks.
The entry into the race of popular two-term Republican Governor Larry Hogan changes that. He launched with a video touting his father's vote to impeach Richard Nixon, and is expected to run a staunchly anti-Trump campaign:
[link removed]
Biden won Maryland by 33 points last time, and federal elections are much more partisan than gubernatorial elections.
If Hogan somehow wins he would likely step into the John McCain/Mitt Romney role of being the media's favorite Republican – but he would vote conservative sometimes on some issues – unlike the 100% liberal record we can expect from the Democratic contenders.

5) Biden Admits That Bidenflation Is STILL Out of Control
Joe Biden declined the traditional presidential Super Bowl interview again this year, even though the game was not on FOX but on the Biden-friendly CBS network. Instead, he posted this rant:
[link removed]
The 48-second video was assembled with 15(!) cuts.
The irony is that in recent weeks Biden has been boasting that inflation is coming down. “Shrinkflation” is just a disguised form of Bidenflation. You pay more at the store for less. Add 5% to the official cost of everything. Wait a minute. We don’t recall a problem with shrinkflation when Trump was president. Do you?
We’ve come up with our own term to describe what’s happening. You’ve heard of the term “a baker’s dozen.” That of course is 13 eggs – rather than 12. This dates back to medieval England when bakers were accused of using fewer eggs and less wheat when baking. They could be flogged if caught. To ensure that they offered 13 eggs when the customer paid for a dozen.
A Baker’s Dozen
A “BidenDozen.” That’s 11 eggs instead of 12. Thanks, Joe.
