We know this is a difficult time for communities all over the world and we hope this message finds you and your loved ones well. First, for health information, please refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization. In addition, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum has been compiling multilingual resources on the coronavirus and COVID-19 in their Community Library.
In these challenging times, no one should be subject to discrimination, yet Asian Americans have increasingly been targeted by racism and xenophobia related to the coronavirus or COVID-19. We offer the following resources in response to this hate.
We encourage reporting to our website, www.StandAgainstHatred.org, which is accessible in Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Through this website, we document hate crimes, harassment, and discrimination experienced by our community.
The tracker is checked daily, and where we have permission to do so, we post stories to the website while preserving the privacy of the people who submitted them. By sharing your story, you are elevating the experiences and incidents that take place every day. You are helping to advocate for the community by ensuring our stories are heard by our elected officials, the media, and our community members who can take comfort and know they are not alone. These stories show that words matter. They also help us monitor and push back against hate. For stories where legal action can be pursued, we will follow-up to provide support.
For direct legal and social services, such as connecting impacted individuals with pro bono attorneys, mental health services, and in certain cases, legal counsel, we partner with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and their Stop Hate project. Assistance is available through the Stop Hate hotline (1-844-9-NO-HATE), which is accessible in a number of languages.
We will continue to update our website as more developments arise.
Watch a recent conversation, "The Rising Tide of Anti-Asian American Sentiment and the COVID-19 Crisis," with our President Executive Director John C. Yang, Council of Korean Americans Executive Director Abraham Kim, President & CEO of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies Madalene Mielke, and National Director of National Council of Asian Pacific Americans Gregg Orton.
