We have New Mexicans stranded abroad right now, and they need our help.
I have been so proud of all that New Mexico has done in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I have been working around the clock to help New Mexicans stay safe and healthy.
Let’s work together to make sure all New Mexicans can get back to their homes and families, their health care providers and the medications some of them urgently need.
Ensuring that Americans abroad are supported by their country is a fundamental responsibility of our government, especially during this global pandemic. Yet I’ve heard from New Mexicans living, working, and traveling overseas that they are desperately trying to come home with little support from the U.S. Department of State, which is unacceptable. In the meantime, New Mexicans are emptying their bank accounts trying to purchase flights home that end up cancelled, without reimbursement.
The Center for Civic Policy has stepped up to help New Mexicans in this situation.
If you know a New Mexican stranded abroad that needs help, they can request assistance from this fund by emailing [email protected]. Please also make sure they register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, a free service that allows U.S. citizens traveling or living overseas to receive the latest security updates from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
