Hi John,
In the midst of a looming budget crisis, Senate democrats still have not committed to raising revenue to support our most vulnerable New Yorkers through this crisis. We know the COVID-19 shutdown will impact the finances on New York State. Our state leaders can either make cuts to vital programs like health and education, or they can ask New Yorker’s billionaires and millionaires to contribute a little more in this time of crisis to help support children and families.
Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Senate Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris and Senate Finance Chair Liz Krueger need to stand up for all New Yorkers by demanding a budget that protects healthcare and fully funds our schools. The stakes could not be higher.
Email Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Senate Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris and Senate Finance Chair Liz Krueger now and tell them they must stand up for New York's children! The final budget must fully fund Foundation Aid for public schools.
As New York confronts the current reality, we cannot allow the history of Cuomo's education cuts to repeat itself. Our schools cannot afford to carry the weight of another financial crisis, while billionaires receive bailouts. Children are already missing instructional time and processing trauma that could cause years of disruption to their education.
If our schools had the investments and resources they needed, perhaps they would be confronting this crisis with online learning happening for all students. Instead, students in wealthy ZIP codes switched over to remote learning in 24-48 hours. While many children in high need school districts still lack access to technology and resources to continue learning while the schools are closed.
Now is the time to be shoring up our schools, so they have the resources to ensure students continue learning despite this crisis. It is essential that this time we choose to prioritize the needs of New York's children and families, not billionaires.
Email Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Senate Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris and Senate Finance Chair Liz Krueger now. Tell them they must stand up for New York's children, and they can do that by making billionaires pay.
In solidarity,
Jasmine Gripper
