But there is tantalizing evidence that those institutions will take notice when right-thinking alumni and donors speak out and demand action. In the past couple of weeks, for example, the University of Texas at Austin has canceled its race-based graduation ceremonies and dissolved a scholarship program benefiting illegal aliens. Meanwhile, Texas A&M's board of regents voted to close its campus in Qatar following an outcry related to national security issues. The institutions of government—including universities—cannot be left on autopilot. Our republic demands an informed and engaged citizenry, which is why Texas Scorecard exists. – Brandon Waltens Featuredby Luca Cacciatore and Michael Quinn Sullivan The Texas Republican Party’s State Executive Committee approved in a historic 55-4 vote on Saturday a resolution censuring House Speaker Dade Phelan of Beaumont. The resolution discourages Phelan from participating in this year’s Republican Party primary, strips GOP financial support from his campaign, and potentially opens the door to the party campaigning against him. The party’s state chairman, Matt Rinaldi, told Texas Scorecard that the GOP is “committed to supporting Republican officeholders,” but it also must define what it means to be a Republican officeholder. “When you empower Democrats, by definition, you disempower Republicans, and that been the record of Dade Phelan,” said Rinaldi.
