Hello John,
February is a meaningful month for me as we celebrate both Lunar New Year and Black History Month, honoring my family’s heritage.
Lunar New Year, or ‘Seollal’ in Korean, is a celebration of the first new moon of the lunar calendar for many Asian communities. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, which holds opportunities for success, excitement, and change.
I take pride in my Korean and African-American heritage, which has always has always remained an important part of who I am and what I stand for. Lunar New Year is a time for families to come together and pay our respects to our ancestors.
Tonight, I’ll be looking up at the first new moon of the new year and thinking about my family and my heritage. Let’s celebrate our journeys, look forward to new beginnings, and recommit ourselves to moving forward — together.
Happy New Year!
